About the provider

Dr. Neeru Madan pic

I’m a licensed clinical psychologist based in Davis, California. I provide psychotherapy and psychological testing services to children, adolescents, and adults. I specialize in working with individuals navigating identity concerns, cultural transitions, and emotional challenges related to anxiety, trauma, or life changes. Many of my clients are immigrants, second-generation individuals, or people of color working through issues of belonging, self-understanding, and navigating multiple roles and expectations across cultural environments. My aim is to offer a nonjudgmental space where all parts of you are welcomed and valued.

Clinical Background

I earned my doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from Long Island University in New York and my Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Clinical Psychology from the Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences in New Delhi, India. I have worked in a variety of clinical settings serving diverse populations, including:

  • Chronic pain and trauma outpatient clinic
  • Community mental health clinic
  • University counseling center
  • Outpatient child psychiatry clinic
  • Partial hospitalization programs (PHP)
  • Inpatient psychiatry unit
  • Intensive outpatient programs (IOP)

My Therapeutic Style

I primarily practice from a psychodynamic perspective, helping clients explore how past experiences shape present emotions, behaviors, and relationships. I also draw from Trauma based therapy approaches, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Mindfulness and compassion-based approaches. My approach is integrative and flexible—I tailor sessions to your goals, history, and strengths, creating a collaborative and supportive therapeutic space.

Cultural Sensitivity and Identity work

I place high importance on cultural awareness in therapy. My work is informed by an understanding of how race, culture, class, gender, and migration shape mental health. I am committed to creating a space that is inclusive, respectful, and attuned to your lived experience.

Clinical Supervision

In addition to my clinical work, I provide supervision to pre-licensed therapists and psychology trainees, supporting their development in areas such as psychodynamic therapy, trauma-informed care, and culturally responsive practice.

Outside of work

Outside of my clinical practice, I enjoy long walks and hikes, spending time near the ocean, engaging in meditation and creative pursuits. Exploring new places and staying grounded in nature helps me stay present, and I bring that presence into my work with clients.
